William Walcot (Russian 1874-1943) studied architecture and practised in Moscow. He came to London at the turn of the century and was sponsored by the Fine Art Society to produce architectural drypoints on London. He works with a very precise and thin line, but in a free manner. He focuses on the buildings rather than any figures in the composition, which the above image characterises perfectly.
