Clifford Fishwick (British 1923-1997) was born in Lancashire, but combined painting and teaching in Devon. He favoured landscape and coastal subjects, and his style became looser and more abstract over the years. He was a member of the Newlyn Society and exhibited widely. This oil study is an example of his later work, and the beach scene depicted, illustrates the impressionistic and colourful approach he adopted.
