William Knox (British 1884-1966) seemingly worked under a few pseudonyms - A D Bell, Horace Hammond  and R MacGregor -painted under contract for a Birmingham art dealer. He is noted mainly for his watercolours of clipper ships, harbour scenes and landscapes. This is a strong example of his work, displaying good colour with sensitive handling of the watercolour and gouache.
