Victor Noble Rainbird (British 1888-1936) practised as a professional artist in North Shields after service in WW1, exhibiting locally and further afield. He painted in watercolour, often using a subdued palette, with landscapes, coastal scenes and figure groups providing the subject for most of his output. This view of York is a prime example of his subject matter, and his use of colour is more forceful than in some of his other watercolours. He died at the young age of 47 in Sunderland.
