Michael David Barnfather (British b1934) was born in Derbyshire. He worked for Rolls Royce as a technical artist, painting at the same time, and turning professional in 1964. He often paints broad landscape panoramas which include buildings. This painting employs a combination of broad brush strokes, and flashes of light impasto colour, to depict a rowing boat moving toward harbour walls within an evening setting.
